 Two States Hindi Movie Reviews

Ratings:4.5/5 Review By: Taran Adarsh Site:Bollywood Hungama

2 STATES is based on Chetan Bhagat's bestseller '2 States: The Story Of My Marriage' Director Abhishek Varman stays faithful to Chetan Bhagat's bestseller, adapting it delightfully on the big screen. The diverse cultures, the discomfort and the pressures when people talk of inter-caste liaison, the unyielding love and the resolve to win the parents' trust... each and every aspect -- the emotions included -- are captured meticulously by the storyteller On the whole, 2 STATES is one of the finest movies to come out of the Hindi film industry of late. This is one of those rare Hindi movies that commands a repeat viewing. Strongly recommended!

The best thing about Two States is that it is fresh -- in the casting, the approach, and the language. It's the kind of romcom that makes you go 'hmmm' rather than 'awwww.' The language spoken by all the characters is no different from one used by everyday people, and it's not like actors saying lines. From the make-out scenes to the fights between the couple, it's all very life-like and non-filmi. The first half is light and breezy and the second dramatic and emotional, perhaps a better balance would have helped the post interval portion which seems heavy. Watch it with friends.

2 States is a happy film (with measured anguish). Romance in cross-cultural or even cross-border situations isn't new to Bollywood. What makes 2 States work is the simple narrative told humorously. Adapted as it is, from one of author Chetan Bhagat's best-selling works, the film, just like the book before it, is light-hearted. Chetan's funny one-liners and life-view are studiously borrowed by the director for his screen outing. And though there is a sense of deja-vu, for those who have read the book, the movie still manages to charm and surprise.

With ‘2 States’, both Varman and writer Bhagat himself, have proven that a good film in Bollywood does not have to be loud and slapstick with stellar music and A-list stars, but that script and good direction is still king at the movies. For the duo, the foot tapping music and a cast of actors that know their job, are simply the added bonus to watch ‘2 States’ in a happy state of mind.

The caste system takes on a new avatar in a post-apocalyptic future, where humans are
segregated by choice into five factions. Those who cannot be categorized are called 'Divergent'. One such individual, Tris Prior (Woodley), finds out that the faction leader wants to exterminate all Divergents. At face value, Divergent comes across as a film that doesn't push any boundaries whatsoever. But at the heart of this dystopian tale awash in grays and browns is a lesson about finding one's identity and being at peace with oneself.

The movie is just entertaining, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. Fans of sci-fi and dystopian films, might like it, but for the general population, this film is quite an average one. The concept and mythology of the film is certainly interesting, but the pacing of the film and lack of proper action sequences (that one would expect from a film like this) distracts you from the plot. With a sequel in the works, the franchise still could pick up the pace and surprise viewers in its second go around. The film is entertaining and does have its moments, but it isn't engaging enough and in the end it's still highly forgettable.

Rio 2 English Movie Review

Ratings:3.5/5 Review By: Gavin Rasquinha Site:Times Of India (TOI)

A lot of the gags revolve around the domesticated (he wears a fanny pack and carries a GPS device) Blu's attempts to readjust to the wild as well as win over Eduardo's favour. Eduardo thinks more highly of Roberto, who on his part is quite happy to reconnect with his childhood playmate Jewel. Nigel and Gabi take the cake and will have you in splits with their crazy behaviour. The baddies this time are a group of loggers who want to raze the part of the rainforest the macaws inhabit. Colourful and well-paced except for a cloyingly sweet song or two, the kids will enjoy this one.

While the theme is well-timed, and coincides with the Indian elections, the lack of a tighter edit and logic reduces it to a ghastly mess. At 160-minutes of screen time, it stops being a fun, endearing story and turns into a classroom lecture on voting rights. There's even a musical lesson on poverty, crime against women, communalism, and much else. Part of the problem lies in his inability to filter out the unnecessary. So, what could have been a good movie, turned into something hugely disappointing.

The first half is filled with light moments that underline their growing bond and camaraderie. But the film, which is touted as a children’s film, takes on a serious tone in the second half. While the first half is refreshingly devoid of needless drama, director Tiwari makes up for all that lost time. The climax is loaded with melodrama and tears. But the credit has to go to Akhrot and Bhoothnath for making the twists palatable. Watch this for Bhalerao and Bachchan (in that order).

Ratings:3/5 Review By: Lokesh Dharmani Site: Masala

The second half of Bhoothnath Returns, like most Hindi films loses track and indulges so extravagantly that I had grown a three day bushy beard by the end of it. Phew. Director Nitesh Tiwari makes a fair attempt at a fun political satire. Alas, he loses the grip towards the end of the film. The timing of this political drama just before the Lok Sabha elections in India is impeccable. Go watch it if you haven’t got your voter ID card.

Release Date: Mar 14, 2014

Duration: 1 hr 40 mins

Director: Shyam Ramsay

Language: Hindi

Genre: Horror

Cast & Crew: Arbaaz Ali Khan, Roushika Reikhi, Shakti Kapoor, Gavie Chahal, Gavie Chahn, Kirti Vaidhya, Hritu Dudani, Prince Sodhi, Sunny Singh

Zac Efron gives one of his most credible and intriguing performances in this winningly stupid frat comedy.

Seth Rogen’s being a grown-up again. Fear not, those who remember Ro-Bro’s crying scene in Take This Waltz – this time the relationship stuff is played way down in the dirt. Neighbors – writer-director Nicholas Stoller’s smart, disgusting gutter-dweller – has little time for the intricacies of long-term love and commitment. Instead it crashes Project X into a Joe Swanberg movie, invites it to chug the drinks and throw up all over the rug.

Rogen and Rose Byrne star as Mac and Kelly, new parents who go to war against the college fraternity that have moved in next door. Head of the frat pack is Zac Efron as Teddy, a sweet-natured lunk who doesn’t want to keep the couple’s baby awake, but can’t pass up an opportunity to party.

Neighbors is being billed as a work in progress at SXSW, but the choppy edit – filled with scenes that could well white-out before the final cut – only adds to the film’s anarchic sense of fun. Stoller – the long-term Apatow collaborator who also had a hand in 2011’s Muppets revamp – has always been good at mixing profanity and pathos. His directorial debut, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, hid a sincere romantic drama behind all the dick jokes. Neighbors is far less subtle, barely bothering to check if its dignity’s in place before leaping into the next filthy setup.

Rogen and Byrne have great chemistry as the thirtysomethings anxious to do right by their daughter, look cool in front of the kids and still get invited to party like they used to. Byrne’s role is meatier than most comedies – even Apatow comedies – allow their female stars. Kelly is as conniving as Mac, equally keen to get one over the college kids by doing something moronic. They’re a very likable couple, both as tempted by the hard partying lifestyle of Teddy and co as they are dismissive of it.

Efron is strangely blank for the alpha-male leader of a group of marauding teens, but his support – including Dave Franco as his big-brained lieutenant, Pete, and Christopher Mintz-Plasse as “blessed” numbskull Scoonie – pick up the slack. Submarine’s Craig Roberts pops up in a charming little role as a wannabe frat member. He’s full of conflicted emotions about his place in the all-male society, unsure how the house’s intensely homo-social heirarchy chimes with his need for independence. His character is called Assjuice.

Neighbors needs a tuck. The pacing is wobbly, the targets are too big. There are some lazy gags about post-natal sex (“she’s got these huge tits, but she insists on wearing a wife-beater. It’s like fucking Tony Soprano!”) and too much focus on Scoonie’s schlong. But it’s also an extremely funny comedy that pushes Rogen’s instinctive good nature to the limit. His stoner schtick helps to take the edge off much of the film’s crassness and gives it back some charm. In its current state, Neighbors is filthy, nasty and a bit too sloppy. But it’ll scrub up lovely.

Duration: 2 hrs

Director: Nupur Asthana

Language: Hindi

Genre: Comedy, Romance

Cast & Crew: Ayushmann Khurrana, Sonam Kapoor, Rishi Kapoor
Music: Raghu Dixit

Lyrics: Anvita Dutt Guptan
Singers: Aditi Singh Sharma, Benny Dayal, Ayushmann Khurrana, Neeti Mohan, Shreya Ghoshal, Mohit Chauhan, Vishal Dadlani and Raghu Dixit

Bewakoofiyaan, starring Ayushmann Khurrana, Rishi Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor, has been directed by Napur Asthana. The film promises to be a funny entertainer based on a father’s disapproval of his daughter’s boyfriend. Checking the track record of the musicians the music of this film should be fresh and new. So has the music impressed us or let us down? Find out in the song by song music review

Gulcharrey: Sung by Aditi Singh Sharma and Benny Dayal this song is nothing more than average. The song is laden with techno beats throughout but still it doesn’t have that peppy catch to it. This song doesn’t have the lasting impact on the listener. The singing is commendable although and the overall song could have been way better.

Khamakhaan: Sung by Ayushmann Khurrana and Neeti Mohan this song is once again upbeat but not up to the mark. The composition is not that great and seems to remind you of Sandeep Chowta’s Mast title track. Ayushman’s vocals come a bit late in the song, which is again another let down. Another upbeat number which is very weak in its appeal. The composition is a lil messy and seems to lack proper music arrangement.

Bewakoofiyaan: Crooned by Raghu Dixit, this song is better than the others. The western flavor to the song has been well brought about by the use of electric guitar and drums. The Indian part mid-way in the song is good and helps give the song a blend of east and west together. The vocals are strong and add a lot of energy to the song. This song is a keeper and would be there in your music players for some time.

Rumaani Sa: Though this number by Shreya Ghoshal and Mohit Chauhan is descent but it isn’t as good as their last collaboration Saans for Jab Tak Hai Jaan. This is another likeable song in the album and it is mostly because of the vocals. This is an unconventional romantic track and would definitely make you want to stand up and dance with your partner.

Aye Jigida: Sung by Vishal Dadlani this track is not at all as good as it should have been. The song doesn’t do justice at all to his singing capabilities. The song is a big letdown as many people might just listen to this song thinking it to be a Vishal Dadlani song, but sadly it is nothing that great.

O Heeriye: Sung by Ayushmann Khurrana this is the same Punjabi number which was released last year as a solo single by the actor. This song had an instant likeable feel to it when it was released and even now you would want to fall in love with it all over again. The lyrics are fantastic and Ayushmann’s vocals have been so well blended that it is undoubtedly one of the best songs by the Paani da rang singer!

Verdict: Bewakoofiyaan could have been a far better album considering the cumulative talents of all the singers and musicians. But sadly the album is weak and unfulfilling. Many songs are lackluster and would die off just as soon as the film releases. The compositions are weak and not catchy. An album which can be given a pass but still if you want to listen to our picks are Rumaani Sa, Bewakoofiyaan title track and O Heeriye.

Ratings:4/5 Review By: Taran Adarsh Site:Bollywood Hungama

QUEEN is about a shy and timid girl who travels to Paris and Amsterdam for her honeymoon all alone, when her beau calls off the wedding at the last minute. A quirky concept, yes. But this coming of age story is indeed enjoyable, despite the hiccups. On the whole, QUEEN reinvents the genre with its non-formulaic screenplay and skilled direction. A charming little film, this one's made with heart and feeling and it shows. Absolutely recommended!

Ratings:4/5 Review By: Meena Iyer Site:Times of India (TOI)

Kangana Ranaut's performance is outstanding. Whether she's crestfallen or ecstatic, selling golgappas or naively buying sex-toys, hiding her infatuation for an Italian restaurateur or showing deep dejection about her wimpy beau Vijya (Rajkummar Rao), she's a class act. Lisa Haydon and Rajkummar Rao lend good support. But this film belongs to its director Vikas Bahl.

Ratings:3.5/5 Review By: Rahul Desai Site:Mumbai Mirror

Director Vikas Bahl (Chillar Party) has crafted one of the better coming-of-age tales in recent times. Expanding on the admirable 2014 motto of Women's Empowerment, Queen's chief strength lies in its authenticity and littler details, right down to the fading henna patterns on Rani's hands.Queen almost defies its bloated running time. I say 'almost' because one too many moments of enlightenment are piled on towards the end, none of which are surprising. This is instantly forgiven though, as soon as some very innovative end credits begin to roll.

Ratings:4.5/5 Review By: Gayatri Jayaraman Site:India Today

The delightful film tells a simple story: that of a young Indian girl from Rajouri Garden in New Delhi, dumped by her fiance two days before her wedding, who chooses to go on the prebooked honeymoon. And that is the film's beauty: its pauses, its silences, its not saying too much when it can say less.  Cocoon-like, Vikas Bahl allows the woman to emerge from the turmoil, in her own way, on her own terms, and that is uniquely a mastery of his own.

Ratings:4/5 Review By: Mohar Basu Site:Koimoi

Have you ever watched a film that has you smile all through its run time, even when a silent tear drops down your face? Queen does that for me. Vikas Bahl eloquently traps the gradual transformation of Rani’s middle class terminology into a self assured laconic ‘thank you’. It could have been very forgettable and limp but Kangana’s poise pulls through the film marvellously. Queen is a winner and does it all in a regal style almost to give most film lovers a cinematic orgasm of sorts. Savor this one!

Full Story of movie queen:-

Vikas Bahl who has wrote and directed ‘Chillar Party’ back in 2011, has come a long way in terms of concept and ideas.

Queen is predominantly has a mass appeal particularly for the new-age women who can’t hide their emotions and want to express it.

Rani (Kangana Ranaut) is a middle class Delhi-girl who is about to get married and is all excited to lose her virginity during the honeymoon with her husband Vijay (Rajkumar Yadav). But things take a drastic shape and Vijay leaves her alone. Rani instead of weeping and looking out for sympathy takes an unusual step to go out for a honeymoon alone. Her family supports her and she flies to Amsterdam. How things shape up for her humourously, Vikas Bahl tells the story of this innocent Rani through ‘Queen’.

The director has caught the pulse and presents a not so flashy and typical lifestyle in an unusual manner. You get familiar with the middle-class Punjabi mehendi ceremony, the excitement and the happiness surrounding the entire fiesta.

Kangana’s character takes you to a different world, her excitement is not bound and to enjoy she moves independently. Now a typical Indian woman entering into an unknown world is not an easy task and we aren’t fooled over by its portrayal. Vikas Bahl gives some genuine shots with the lady having no idea about the local language and the hurdles she faces while roaming in the flashy city of Amsterdam.

Though after few occasions you get the feeling that the things are taking up a monotonous shape but till then you have journeyed enough with loads of fun. But fun is not just a thing one should expect from this innocent and confused Rani. There are moments, which would give a lump in your throat as you feel pity for the poor protagonist. Among those fun and sad moments, the joy of self-satisfaction which she garners among her new white friends adds value.

Vijayalakshmi (Lisa Hayden) gives her moral support and this is where Rani drinks all her pain and frustration she had in the strange city. Actors like Bokyo Mish, Jeffrey Ho, Joseph Guitobh, Canadea Lopez Marco are a surprise package in the city, which is beautifully cinematographed by Booby Singh. You know Kangs’ usual mode of uttering words but here she looks cute while delivering her dialogues written by herself and Anvita Dutt. Undoubtedly, she is the soul of this, flick which is made with heart.

300: Rise of an Empire Movie Review

Ratings:4/5 Review By: Gavin Rasquinha Site:Times Of India

Xerxes himself, looking like he has emerged from a gold bath and resplendent in various piercings, is relegated to a few booming sentences. The blood and gore is off the scale; warriors are hacked and cleaved in glorious CGI detail. Part-vamp and part-warrior princess in leather, Green is stunning as Artemisia. The film itself looks fantastic, awash in a red-sepia tone that dominates everything. Although you will have seen many action films set during a point of time in history (this one's set in 480 BC), there is plenty in here to keep your attention from start to finish.

Ratings:3.5/5 Review By: Juhi Matta Site:Bookmyshow

This movie is also not for people looking for an original plot. Much of 300: Rise of an Empire is a mere retelling of the events of 300. It’s also like its predecessor, in the fact that there’s almost no character development. In fact, the only character who’s actually fleshed out is the antagonist. 300: Rise of an Empire is visually-stunning and a must-watch for anyone who liked 2006′s 300. Though it’s not as good as its predecessor, it’s still an entertaining movie. Action movie fans, in particular, are bound to enjoy this flick.

Ratings:3/5 Review By: Guy Lodge Site:Timeout Mumbai

Even lighter on story than Zack Snyder’s 2007 predecessor, with an even more imposing array of beardy-yet-waxed male specimens on display, 300: Rise of an Empire essentially cops to being an equal-opportunity drool-fest: as homoerotic or empoweringly macho as you want it to be, with more women in play this time round. It’s flesh and carnage that the audience is here to see, and Murro delivers it by the glistening ton, pausing only for stray bits of back-story

I have not seen Noam Murro’s first film, Smart People, and after seeing his latest - 300: Rise of an Empire - I’m not sure I can yet say I’ve seen a movie of his. 300: Rise of an Empire is to Zack Snyder what the Fab Faux is to The Beatles - a truly remarkable, technically perfect cover. If it comes out some years from now that Snyder stepped in and directed some of the film himself I wouldn’t be too surprised; aesthetically it is often indistinguishable from 300.
But 300: Rise of an Empire is quite distinguishable from the original film (released EIGHT YEARS AGO!), and to the movie’s great credit it does not feel like a retread or a repeat of what we’ve already seen. This sequel keeps the elements that made the original iconic - the painterly look of the film, the much-copied speed ramping, the po-faced seriousness that plods directly into camp - while going off on its own bizarre, perhaps insane, tangent. Operating as a prequel, sidequel and sequel, 300: Rise of an Empire tells the story of how Xerxes got his groove, what the rest of the Greeks were doing while Leonidas and friends were dying and then what impact their sacrifice had on the war between Greece and Persia.
Let me break into my own review here and say that I really like 300. I’m a big fan of style, and while I have profound philosophical issues with that movie, it’s very enjoyable. It’s a bit long, but I like how nutty and odd it is, how gay it is and simply how well made it is. This is one of those times where I want to defend Zack Snyder a bunch because I think he’s a remarkable visual filmmaker who creates images that are exciting and evocative and who I think has an almost preternatural grasp on how to tell a story in pictures. Whether that story is any good is another matter, but Snyder is like Christopher Nolan in that from shot to shot, scene to scene he makes everything work magically. People tend to like Christopher Nolan’s brand of big nonsensical junk better than Snyder’s because Nolan is a British guy and Snyder is a surfer dude, and because Nolan’s schtick is supposedly realism (which isn’t even the case, but he prestiges you) while Snyder is happily flailing about in the ridiculous. And I like the ridiculous, and I like the way that Snyder has an unerring eye for what looks cool and what works in the moment - a moment where you must throw yourself into the sensual awesomeness of an extraordinary image that jumps directly from your cornea into the most exhilaration-prone parts of your lizard brain. So what I’m saying is that you should read the rest of the review through the prism of a guy who has seen the original 300 quite a few times. If you didn’t like that movie, this one isn’t as good.
I wish that defending Snyder’s style was out of place in this review, but Murro really is just doing his best Snyder here. Sometimes it’s sub-Snyder - there are speed ramps that happen just because you expect it in a film with 300 in the title - but other times Murro’s copy is an F For Fake masterwork; during some of the battle scenes I forgot this wasn’t directed by Zack Snyder. It was co-written by him, along with original 300 co-writer Kurt Johnstad, based on a yet-unpublished comic by Frank Miller. I don’t know what Miller’s comic will be like, but 300: Rise of an Empire takes some steps to get away from the original’s dude-heavy aspects and brings in Eva Green to play a character so awesome that making her the villain is a true bummer.
She’s Artemisia, and she commands Xerxes’ naval forces. Where 300 had all the action on the cliffside of the Hot Gates, 300: Rise of an Empire is mostly a naval battle picture, although that doesn’t stop half-naked Greeks from leaping to other ships and engaging in lots of swordplay. Artemisia, it is revealed, is the real brains behind Persia; a decade before the events of 300 she convinced Xerxes, whose father Darius had just been killed by Greek warrior Themistokles, to become a god and then mass his armies for another go at Athens and company. She has put herself in the position of true power, the person who whispers words and plans into god’s ears. Green is fantastic in the role, pacing right at the edge of camp like a hungry tiger.
Green is filled with fire, and she dominates every moment she’s on screen - which is a problem in her scenes opposite Sullivan Stapleton, ostensibly the hero of the picture. He plays Themistokles, now a stateman who blames himself for killing Darius and not the far more dangerous Xerxes in that original battle. He’s heading the ragtag fleet of Greeks (you know, all the city states that the Spartans dismissed as farmers and sculptors and boy lovers in the first film) and at one point he goes to her ship for a face to face that turns into a fuck and then a fist to face. It’s a great scene, and the choreography of the fight/fuck scene is wonderful; the power dynamics that play out speak not just to sexuality but character and larger strategic aspects of the war. There’s a moment where Themistokles tries to take her from behind and then she hits him and leaps atop him that’s got about three layers happening (one of which is that these are two people who look very good nude).
But Stapleton doesn’t have what it takes to stand opposite Green, and neither does anyone else in the film. A lot of her scenes are her standing on a deck getting really mad at the admirals who are failing the hell out of her, and none of these guys are her equal. She demolishes everyone else who comes into frame, and she does it with fierce cruelty and an incendiary sexuality. Green relishes her moments, and the character of Artemisia is a fascinating one, someone driven by a deep desire for revenge. In my original 300 review I noted that the Spartans’ cries for freedom rang hollow when they kept slaves; Artemisia spent her childhood as a sex slave on a Greek ship, putting a face to that lie. It’s a subversive undercutting of the main characters’ motivations and ideology, and it’s part of what made me like the character so much. Where Xerxes was a cartoonish villain in 300, Artemisia is a more complex and understandable antagonist here.
If Stapleton isn’t that great he’s not alone; this time the Greek forces are made up of largely interchangeable meatheads. There’s yet another father/son team, just like in the first film, but good luck telling anybody apart. Snyder’s casting was strong in 300 - it’s likely one of the first places you ever saw Michael Fassbender - and Dominic West, David Wenham (who shows up here again) and especially Gerard Butler made the first film’s cast feel lively. There’s no one at that level here (imagine saying this film suffers for lack of Gerard Butler!), and so the Greeks become a good-natured group of hunks, even more like anonymous Chippendale dancers than in the first film. They’re all serviceable, at least, and they work in the action scenes.
The action scenes are terrific, and the naval stuff offers new avenues for death and slow motion, and lots of cool strategic business. The Greeks chip away at the Persian fleet using deception and trickery, and it’s all a lot of fun. Each engagement is different enough (even with the film having a too-constant sickly grey palette) that it never feels repetitive, and the ante keeps getting upped until when Themistokles is riding a horse from burning ship to burning ship it’s just the next natural progression. The final battle is a blast, and there are some more (well, one more) female characters thrown into the mix to cut off heads and slice off limbs. The movie ends on a triumphant note not unlike 300, with the promise of the battle against the Persians continuing in 300 3: Still 300 After All These Years.
I really enjoyed 300: Rise of an Empire. It’s not as good as 300 - it doesn’t have the strong cast and the fact that it’s aping 300 so hard makes it impossible for the film to be truly unique - but it’s a worthy prequel/sidequel/sequel. It plays nicely in the same nutty world as the original (although I wish it got nuttier. There are sea monsters, but they’re in a dream) and it expands the story and the setting in a way that makes me hopeful for another sequel (of course part of what makes this sequel so palatable is the long time between films; if there’s a 300 3 in two years it may be too soon). If you liked 300 as I did, 300: Rise of an Empire is going to be a total blast for you. If you’re not a fan of300… well, I’m sure you have something else to do this weekend.

Even at one-hour-and-fifty-minutes, ‘Total Siyappa’ does test our patience, and often slips into buffoonery in a lame attempt to tickle us. That said, director E Niwas, who had worked on massive star-cast for ‘Love Ke Liye Kuch Bhi Karega’ back in 2001, does churn out quite a few laugh-out-loud moments. With so much going against ‘Total Siyappa’, we suggest you skip the ordeal completely and revisit those snappy trailers instead, because that’s where the fun lies.

Total Siyapaa was intended as a comedy of errors, but there were too many subtexts and characters crowding the second half. While the film managed to tick all the offensive stereotype jokes, the long-winded second half scratches out their efforts. Watch this only if you are a total fan of Zafar, Gautam and the Khers.

Is it enough for two individuals from clashing cultures and countries to be in love? Love can be quite a bitch.

Picture this. The daughter of a family has a secret boyfriend whom she's about to introduce to the family. No big deal, right? But what if she is an Indian and he's a Pakistani?

Picking on this pert premise screenwriter Neeraj Pandey does a special 69 on cross-border politics. Borderline tensions are defused to the point until we see just the ludicrous futility of cultural bickering. It's a delicious idea to build a plot around.

Pandey derives inspiration from a Spanish film "Seres Queridos", in which the conflict between the Palestinian boy and his girlfriend's Jewish family was served in a feisty feast of farcical episodes, all meant to draw humour from the dysfunctional family's dysfunctionalism.

In the Hindi adaptation, the Pakistani boy is utterly and delectably lost in his girlfriend's Punjabi home in London.

Director Eeshwar Niwas, who had earlier adapted the ransom caper "Ruthless People" in a reasonably watchable film "Love Ke Liye Kuch Bhi Karega", uses London's nightscape as a beguiling backdrop to the Punjabi family's bickering. Ironically, the plot loses its liberal air once out on the streets.

Anupam Kher's tryst with a British hooker is sadly unanchored.

It's one evening in the family's history. The script brings out the eccentric characters and their whimsical ways with the kind of pleasure that a housewife experiences while serving up her husband's favourite dishes although she may not be too good at the cooking.

A lot of the humour simply sags in soggy lumps. There is a distinctly 'European' flavour and fervour to the unravelling of the comic mode in the dysfunctional family's life.

Ali Zafar as the bewildered Pakistani boyfriend and Kirron Kher as his scattered mother-in-law-to-be project a prowling predatoriness to their scenes together. They are a delight to watch when thrown together.

I really wish there was more of Kher and Zafar in the plot. The meat of the matter lies in the mater's time on screen with her to be 'damaad' (son-in-law).

Yami Gautam as the giggly prim girlfriend is a sketchily written mediocre character with no dips and curves.

New-find Sara Khan as Yami's sister comes across as a far more seductive character. The role is tantalising and Sara plays with guts and vivacity the near-divorced single mother with a restless foot under the dining table. And for my money, Sara's tabletop dance with the distinctly diffident Ali is the film's highlight.

Sadly by the time Sara's sexy jig comes along, the plot meanders in search of a combustive climax. The strenuous effort to Indianise a Spanish comedy begins to take its toll on the narrative when the dysfunctional family runs out of tricks to rivet us to their wackiness.

The film comes to an inglorious halt with one of the character's stumbling home in a dazed condition, much in the same condition as the plot. But there is a lot that goes in its favour.

The elegantly done-up cosy and eccentric atmosphere of a London home, for one. David Meadows' cinematography looks at London as home rather than a tourist destination.

Sanjoy Chowdhury's background score reminds us that no matter how hard the characters scream, the music needn't get aggressive in support.

The cast, as mentioned, largely does well for itself with Ali, Kirron and Sara leading the pack.

Is it enough for two individuals from clashing cultures and countries to be in love? Love can be quite a bitch.

"Total Siyapaa" is total madness. An audacious comedy that dares to poke fun at a border issue, the film is stylised and is attentively staged.

Gulaab Gang Movie review and Full Story of gulaab gang and Show time of gulaab gang

Starring: Juhi Chawla and Madhuri Dixit

Director: Soumik Sen

Rating: 3 and a half

IMDB Rating :- 7.0/10

Rahul Gandhi must be very happy right now. Finally, a film on his favourite subject - Women's Empowerment!

Somewhere in the film, Rajjo (Madhuri-don’t-mistake-this-for-Kangana-Ranaut’s-Rajjo-Dixit) says, “Jaise til mein tel hai aur paththar mein aag, tera Sai tujh mein hain tu jaag sake toh jag.” (Like sesame seeds have oil and stones have fire, the power in women lies within them)
This encapsulates the essence of the film - that women are already empowered; they just need to realise and exercise it.

Rajjo runs an aashram that not only educates women but gives them a means of livelihood and fights for justice for one and all, irrespective of gender. She is the pink version of Chulbul Pandey, who first tries to resolve issues at hand peacefully, failing which violence is the next resort. She then comes face to face with the matriarch politician Sumitra Devi (Juhi-jyoti-bani-jwala-Chawla).

The first half of the film is pretty slick and fast-paced, with a collage of events that establishes the Gulaab Gang and their motives. The second half gets a tad sluggish as it turns into a bitter battle between Didiji and Madamji!

Madhuri Dixit has played almost similar characters earlier (Ketki in Mrityudand and Janki in Lajja), but Rajjo in Gulaab Gang unlike those earlier characters is not a victim. She is not an avenger; she is a crusader, fighting for justice. Madhuri is conviction personified in the role, especially her fight sequences. The action in the film is very Rohit-Shetty-Dabangg-R-Rajkumar-types with bullets being fired lavishly, fountains of blood springing all around, men flung in the air caught on multiple-matrix-like-cameras. The only difference is that it’s sari-clad women kicking some serious butt! Madhuri’s taekwondo lessons with the family in the US must have come in pretty handy! Wah! Kya family hai, a family that (b)eats together stays together!

Madhuri and Juhi are a dream casting coup. Juhi plays an unforgiving, evil politician who sends policemen on sick leave when they refuse to touch her feet. She mock weeps through a political speech as she talks about her dead husband and in the next scene curses the insurance for not giving her the due money!! She smiles consistently and spurts expletives when least expected. She is pure evil and pure genius in a particular scene where she disregards a rape survivor and turns it into a political joke.

The supporting cast: Divya Jagdale (as Mahi) and Priyanka Bose (as Sandhya) deserve a mention here. Gulaab Gang wouldn’t have been as feisty without them.
Cinematographer Alphonse Roy (of Aamir fame) moves his camera slowly at prime moments in the film, building tension that is further heightened by the menacing background score by John Stewart.
The music of the film may not be chart-bursting but a couple of songs stand out. Rangi sari gulabi, a famous Dadra by Shobha Gurtu, is effectively used. Both Madhuri and her mum lend their voices to this tune and do a fine job too.

Director Soumik Sen has chosen a rather interesting subject for his first film and shows immense promise. I recommend the movie mainly for Juhi Chawla as she shifts gears from that sweet smiling girl to that evil and heartless yet smiling politician!

Full story of Gulaab Gang Read Here:

India for a very long time played a hub to those egoistic saints who believed women were born to raise children, being beaten, disrespected and live no life of their own.

With changing times, women have been empowered by laws, education and other helpful aspects that not only gave them the confidence to live life on their own terms but also cemented their foothold in a men-driven country.

Through 'Gulab Gang' director Anubhav Sinha beautifully showcased an insight on the lives the women of today's times and their struggle to stand up to those who are ready waiting to crush them beneath the age old mind-set.

Two contemporaries of their times Madhuri Dixit and Juhi Chawla have come together for 'Gulab Gang', a story about two women played by Madhuri (Gulab Gang leader) and Juhi (politician), while the former believes the depraving condition of women could be changed with women empowerment, the latter thinks that a woman in power holds the key to up-liftment.

The film shows the atrocities thrown upon women which are opposed by a gang of Indian women dressed in pink coloured saris. The gang popularly known as 'Gulab Gang' works towards fighting the social injustice prevailing in and around Bundelkhand (UP&MP).

Madhuri play the role of the Gulab Gang leader who believes in empowering the women. She along with other gang members resides in a village in Bundelkhand and works towards admonishing social injustice towards women within community. Together they stand up and fight for women who are victim of domestic abuse and are often mishandled by their husbands & other male members of the community.

Madhuri portrays the role of a fierce woman who regardless of her identity defies the devious customs of the society. She not only fights for women empowerment but also initiates education to make women self-depended.

Leading them, Madhuri and her group make laathis (bamboo sticks) their weapon to punish those abusive husbands until they stop abusing their spouses.

The journey towards the second half shows the entrance of Juhi Chawla who plays the role of shrewd politician. She believes that a woman in power holds the key to control the society. Only power satisfies her quest to winning, hence she ruthlessly tries to have control over the society.

On the other hand, the state people start living under the fear of facing dire consequences from the women gang leaders.

And as it goes two swords cannot be fit in one sheath. Therefore seeing the growing popularity of Madhuri and Gulab Gang as menace to herself and her political career, Juhi senses this as a golden opportunity and tries to get a coalition with Madhuri; asking her to step down as the gang leader in return of favours.

But her refusal ensues a battle of powers. The story unfolds as to how women following two different principles come at loggerheads.

Director Anubhav Sinha has come a long way since his 'Tum Bin' days. His last work with Shah Rukh Khan in Ra.One may not have worked too well for his directorial profile, but his hopes are high for Gulab Gang.

Anubhav successfully got together two biggest leading divas (of their times) Madhuri Dixit and Juhi Chawla to work together for the first time. For the first ever time Juhi Chawla is working in a negative role. Let's see what a deadly combination like this creates on screen.
